Is a maintenance plan worth it?

A plan is worth it when it costs less than the same work bought visit by visit, and when it gets the work done on time. Here is the arithmetic, with our own numbers.

By the Aperio service team · Updated 26 September 2026

The short answerFor a typical year of visits, the plan costs less. The Aperio plan is $199 a year per vehicle plus a $20 mobile service fee per visit: at four visits that is $279 for the year, or $324 in the first year with the one-time $45 onboarding fee. The same four visits bought one at a time start at $403.
A typical year

Two oil-life visits, two seasonal swaps.

The average driver covers about 16,000 km (10,000 mi) a year. On the oil-life monitor that is usually two oil changes, plus the spring and fall tire swaps if you use them: two to four visits a year.

At four visits, the plan is $199 + 4 × $20 = $279 for the year. In the first year you add the one-time $45 onboarding fee, so $324. From the fifth visit in a plan year the fee is $30 instead of $20.

Paying per visit

The same year, one visit at a time.

Without a plan, each service is priced on its own: a full-synthetic oil change from $101.50 depending on the engine, a seasonal swap at $60, a rotation at $35, a safety check at $45, and the $20 mobile service fee on every visit.

Two oil changes and two swaps at the lowest of those prices come to at least $403 with the four visit fees, before a single rotation or safety check, both of which the plan includes at every visit. Our pricing page puts the average North American's spend on routine service at around $800 a year.

What the plan covers

Everything routine, at every visit.

  • Full-synthetic oil change, on the oil-life schedule
  • Tire rotation & wear check
  • Seasonal tire swap, on rims
  • Brake inspection
  • Full safety check — lights, wipers, fluids, belts, hoses
  • Battery & fluid check
  • Cabin and engine air filters, as needed
  • Pre-road-trip inspections, unlimited

The only things not included are small wear parts like wiper blades and light bulbs, replaced only if you ask. Battery replacement, tires themselves and repairs that need a lift are quoted first, and only if you ask.

When it isn't

When paying per visit makes more sense.

If you drive very little, with one oil change a year and no seasonal swap, a single visit can cost less than a year on the plan. The plan is also a 12-month commitment: cancelling early doesn't refund unused months, so it suits a car you will keep for the year.

Bigger engines, European makes and diesels cost more on the plan, as they do per visit. Every vehicle page shows the finished annual figure for your exact engine, so you can compare like with like.

Questions

About the plan.

Can I pay for the plan monthly?

Yes. Paying monthly costs $50 more a year: your vehicle's yearly price plus $50, in 12 monthly payments, so the $199 plan is $20.75 a month ($249 for the year). The published prices are the pay-annually prices; prepay online when you book and save 3%.

Is the plan per vehicle?

Yes. Each vehicle has its own plan and its own visit-fee count: the first 4 visits in that vehicle's plan year are $20 each, then $30.

Can I cancel the plan?

Yes, under your plan in your account or by calling 1-833-466-4520. The plan is a 12-month commitment, so the remaining payments of the term are still owed and unused months are not refunded. At the end of the term it renews at the price we tell you beforehand, unless you cancel first.
